  16. Call out for someone to get emergency medical help.

  18. Immediate Treatment:
  19.  
  20.   1. If the victim is near a pier or side of a pool, lie down and give the
  21. victim your hand or foot to pull to safety.
  22.  
  23.   2. If the victim is out from the shore, wade into the water, then extend a
  24. stick, board or rope to pull to safety.
  25.  
  26.   3. If you need to row a boat out to the victim, hand the victim an oar to
  27. pull to safety, or let the victim hold on to the back of the boat and row
  28. to shore.
  29.  
  30.   4. If a neck or back injury is suspected, place some type of board under
  31. the head and back to keep the victim from moving.  Lift the victim out
  32. of the water on the board.
  33.  
  34.   5. Always:  Check and maintain an open airway, restore breathing and
  35. circulation.

  37.   6. If the victim is breathing, place him on his side with head extended
  38. backward so fluids will drain.  Keep the victim warm.
